Students engineered plane (2D) and solid (3D) shapes using marshmallows and toothpicks. After creating squares, rectangles, and triangles and using them to create cubes, pyramids, cylinders, and rectangular prisms, students determined the number of faces, vertices/corners, and edges.
Students investigated equivalent fractions by using a balance scale. To prove their investigations, students cross multiplied their fractions. It was a great way to learn about equivalent fractions and the balance scale.
Students in Ms. Kelly Morris and Ms. Vicki Jones’ know that reading is important. Each 9 week grading period, students must read and pass AR quizzes with an 80% on books they select to read.
During the 2nd 9 weeks, students created chain links. A link was added to the chain every time a student passed an AR book with an 80% or higher. The chains are hanging in the hallway as visual of our student’s success. Students passed a total of 757 books! We are very proud of them.
To celebrate our student’s success, we submitted a video to Good Morning America’s (GMA) “Your Three Words” segment. The students are holding the three words “We Love Reading”. The video aired on Saturday, January 21, 2012.
Students enjoyed learning about sequence/steps in a process by making necklaces out of yarn and straw pieces. Students had to put their steps in order before making their necklaces.
